When Hayden finally sees his parents again after running away, he’s absolutely destroyed. However the encounter goes, it’s all wrong. Hayden doesn’t know what he expected. He knew they wouldn’t apologize or anything like that because they’re just too proud. They don’t have it in them to apologize. Hayden knows this.
That moment is the only time Connor’s ever seen him break down. Afterwards Hayden was back to cracking jokes, being sarcastic, and drawing his hand over flames.
